Manchester United visit Atletico Madrid this evening on matchday two of the league phase of the Champions League. The Red Devils make the trip to the Spanish capital off the back of a 4-0 victory over minnows Sabah FK in their opening game of their European campaign, which marked their return to UEFA’s top competition for the first time since 2023.
Michael Carrick’s men have struggled in the Premier League, however, winning just one of their first six matches. They sit 12th in the table, having drawn three and lost two of their other five games so far. Last time out, they were pegged back by the ten men of Tottenham at Old Trafford, as Dominic Solanke stole in to nod home a late equaliser and salvage a last-gasp point for Roberto De Zerbi’s Spurs, who hauled themselves off the foot of the division.
Atleti, meanwhile, are mourning the mother of captain Koke, and there will be black armbands and a minute’s silence this evening in her memory. Keep up to date with all the latest from the Estadio Metropolitano with our live blog below.
