JOHOR BARU: Police have recorded statements from four witnesses following the death of a 7-year-old boy who fell from the 10th floor of a flat in Taman Perling yesterday.
Acting Johor Baru Utara district police chief Superintendent Azrol Anuar Nor said initial investigations indicated that the boy had been playing with several other children along the 10th-floor corridor before the incident.
He said the boy was believed to have used a bicycle to climb over the corridor wall before falling.
"The boy was found on the ground below the flat by residents at 5.30pm on Oct 23.
"He sustained serious injuries to his head, hands and body and was pronounced dead by a medical officer from Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA), Johor Baru, who arrived at the scene," he said in a statement today.
Azrol said a post-mortem conducted at 11am confirmed that the cause of death was multiple injuries sustained in a fall from height.
He said the case had been classified as sudden death and investigations were ongoing.
The boy, Mohammad Adib Rizqy Mohammad Fauzi, was a Primary One pupil at SK Tampoi Utama and the second of four siblings.
At the time of the incident, he had been riding his bicycle outside his home while his mother was tidying the house and his father was at work.
Azrol advised parents and guardians to monitor their children closely to prevent similar incidents.
He also urged them to ensure children did not climb or play near windows, balconies, corridors or other high-risk areas that could result in serious injury or death.
Anyone with information about the incident can contact the Johor Baru Utara district police headquarters hotline at 07-556 3122 to assist with investigations.
