- The accident happened after a rider reportedly lost control of his motorcycle and rammed into a stalled lorry.
One person has died, and three others sustained injuries in a road accident along the Kakamega-Kisumu highway at Ehendwe in Vihiga County.
The accident occurred on Sunday evening after a rider reportedly lost control of his motorcycle and rammed into a lorry that had broken down along the road.
Witnesses said the motorcycle was travelling at high speed from Majengo towards Mbale when the rider lost control and crashed into the stationary truck.
One person died in the incident, while three others sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment. Their condition had not been established by the time of publication.
The crash has reignited concerns among residents and motorists over the frequency of accidents along the Kakamega-Kisumu highway, particularly around Ehendwe, where locals say previous incidents have raised questions about road safety.
Residents are now urging the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to urgently address sections they consider hazardous, warning that continued inaction could expose more road users to danger.
They have called for repairs to damaged sections of the highway and the expansion of the road to accommodate the growing volume of traffic.
The residents are also demanding the installation of speed bumps at strategic points to control speeding and reduce the risk of collisions, particularly in areas with heavy pedestrian and motorcyclist activity.
