The former Director-General of the Latvian Employers’ Confederation (LDDK), Kaspars Gorkšs, has been appointed Head of the State Chancellery. This was decided by the government on Tuesday, 20 October.
Gorkšs was one of three candidates who were shortlisted for the post of Director of the State Chancellery. Gorkšs’s candidacy was put forward by the Prime Minister, Andris Kulbergs (United List).
Gorkšs confirmed that he will be able to take up the post of Head of the State Chancellery in about a month’s time, once his current employment contracts with the LDDK and the Jūrmala Football School have been finalised.
Last week, the coalition partners had not yet reached a unanimous decision on his candidacy. Following a meeting with Gorkšs, “New Unity” had not yet given a clear answer regarding its support for his confirmation as Head of the State Chancellery. However, this was no longer of decisive importance – the other coalition partners had already expressed their support for his confirmation. Nor was it widely known why Gorkšs, in particular, had been deemed the best candidate. It transpired that the information considered during the selection process was restricted.
