On Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Caterpillar opened at $791.00, traded between a low of $755.31 and a high of $792.70, and closed at $772.78, against a previous close of $799.37. The session’s move was -3.33% versus the previous close of $799.37 on October 12, 2026.
Caterpillar stock: daily resistance defines the main bias
The close sits below the 200-session EMA at $780.53, the 20-session EMA at $812.55, and the 50-session EMA at $825.68. These averages form overhead obstacles, but their order is not a fully bearish stack. The 200-session average remains below both shorter averages.
Daily momentum readings
Daily RSI14 fell to 38.19 from 44.32 in the preceding session. Its current reading is below 50 but above oversold territory. The daily MACD line is -5.11, below its signal at -1.17, with a negative histogram of -3.94. That alignment supports the bearish daily assessment.
Bollinger Bands and volatility context
The daily Bollinger lower band is $771.92, immediately beneath the close. The mid-band at $813.85 and upper band at $855.78 sit overhead. Consequently, the lower band is the immediate downside reference, while the mid-band marks a more demanding recovery threshold. Daily ATR14 rose to $26.90 from $25.58, indicating a larger absolute volatility measure than in the preceding session.
Hourly confirmation, with a short-term conflict
The hourly averages are bearishly aligned against the session close: the 20-hour EMA is $787.53, below the 50-hour EMA at $804.14 and 200-hour EMA at $814.42. Hourly RSI14 is 32.52, approaching oversold territory but below 50. Price also sits below the hourly Bollinger mid-band at $791.18, between the lower band at $756.14 and upper band at $826.21.
Hourly MACD improvement
However, the hourly MACD histogram increased to -1.66 from -2.38 in the preceding hourly candle. It remains negative, with the MACD line at -12.59 below the signal at -10.93. The improvement in this indicator does not remove the hourly chart’s bearish alignment.
15-minute chart: mixed short-term signals
In contrast, the 15-minute MACD line at -3.39 is above its signal at -5.95, producing a positive histogram of 2.56. RSI14 is 49.74, just below 50. The session close sits above the 20-quarter-hour EMA at $770.51 but below the 50-quarter-hour EMA at $780.85 and 200-quarter-hour EMA at $805.83. It is also above the Bollinger mid-band at $764.92 and below the upper band at $774.17. This is a mixed execution context, not confirmation of a bullish daily trend.
News context and next-session scenarios
Yahoo Finance’s report published during Tuesday’s session questioned whether Caterpillar’s data-center power valuation premium was unwinding. Separately, its report published on Monday, October 12, 2026, described infrastructure projects and data-center construction as increasing equipment demand. Those reports frame the valuation debate.
Bullish scenario
For the next session, the daily pivot sits at $773.60, with first resistance at $791.88 and first support at $754.49. These levels are calculated from the completed daily candle. The bullish scenario requires holding above the daily lower band at $771.92 and reclaiming the pivot at $773.60. Clearing the 200-session EMA at $780.53 would strengthen that case, followed by daily first resistance at $791.88. The 20-session EMA at $812.55 remains a higher hurdle.
Bearish scenario
Conversely, a break below $771.92 would invalidate that immediate bullish case. The session low at $755.31 would then become the next downside reference, followed by daily first support at $754.49. For execution when trading resumes, the 15-minute pivot is $772.32, with first resistance at $773.81 and first support at $771.30.
Overall, Caterpillar stock stands above its daily lower band but below the next-session daily pivot and all three daily averages. Daily ATR14 at $26.90 keeps volatility central to the setup. The unresolved question is whether positive 15-minute MACD alignment can translate into reclaimed daily levels. Prices and technical indicators are from Twelve Data.
