KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia ended the day without a gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games, with defending champion Ziyad Zolkefli losing his men's shot put F20 crown.
The 36-year-old managed a best throw of 16.61 metres at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, missing out on a fourth consecutive title after winning golds in Incheon 2014, Jakarta 2018 and Hangzhou 2022.
Saudi Arabia's Ali Bader claimed gold with a Games-record throw of 17.08 metres, eclipsing Ziyad's previous mark of 16.94 metres, while fellow Malaysian Aliff Awi took bronze with 14.45 metres.
Nonetheless, Malaysia added a silver and two bronze medals to their tally.
Siti Noraidah Suherman claimed silver in the women's shot put F20 with a throw of 11.41 metres, finishing behind Japan's Reina Hori, who set an Asian record of 13.57 metres. The Philippines' Ravinia Carpena took bronze with 11.39 metres.
In table tennis, Jennahtul Fahmi Ahmad Jennah-Hazlin Abdullah settled for bronze in the men's doubles Class 22 after losing 6-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-7, 10-12 to Hong Kong's Wan Wai Lok and Yuen King Shing.
Nur Syaiful Zulkafli added another bronze in the men's 100m freestyle S5, clocking 1:17.30. China's Guo Jincheng won gold in 1:13.73, with compatriot Wang Lichao took silver in 1:15.66.
Malaysia's tally now stands at six gold, eight silver and 13 bronze medals, taking the national contingent beyond their six-gold target with the Games ending on Saturday.
