Shillong, Oct 13: After a slump in August and September in the wake of the August 19 incident, Shillong’s hospitality sector is witnessing a recovery with tourist arrivals normalising and October bookings looking up.
Federation of Shillong Hotels president Paramvir Singh on Monday said the sector had taken a hit for two months but is now on a revival path.
“There was a dip and we suffered for the entire month of August and September but now things are looking on, things are better. Tourists have started coming in, it is normalized now,” Singh said.
He said the autumn season is catching up.
“From October onwards it is alright, the season is catching up. We are looking at decent booking in the month of October. There are advance bookings, the situation is normal now, people are coming,” he said.
Referring to anger among Assam tourists post the incident, Singh said tempers have cooled.
“Assam tourists were quite annoyed after the 19 August incident but now they have understood that people cannot be annoyed for too long,” he said.
Singh further said police have made it compulsory for hotels and homestays to install CCTVs in common areas and at entry points.
“It has become mandatory for all homestays and hotels to have CCTV in common areas and especially pointing outside towards the entry. It has become compulsory and we urge all hoteliers and homestays to install them,” he said, citing information from the SP.
