Fulham may have only beaten Hull 1-0 on Saturday but anyone watching will know just how impressive a performance it was.
Under immense pressure, having failed to win in the Premier League in their first six games and after throwing away five points in two matches from winning positions, Fulham were expected to struggle against Hull.
But they did anything but that, completely dominating possession from the outset and having big chances from the third minute onwards.
Really, Fulham will feel as though they should have come away with a much more routine win than they did.
And that is for one reason and one reason only - it was quite simply their best attacking performance of the season so far.
Alex Iwobi scored one; he could have had a hat-trick. Calvin Bassey had a good chance; Josh King had one difficult chance and one that he simply has to score; Gonzalo Garcia absolutely has to bury his header late on.
From that alone, 4-0 does not feel like an exaggeration.
Hull offered nothing and that is something that Fulham must take credit for, because on this occasion, as there had been against Ipswich the week before and arguably also against Manchester United, there was no sitting back when scoring first.
Fulham kept on attacking, kept on creating good opportunities, and absolutely dominated possession.
But I think I can speak for pretty much all Fulham fans when I say that when Ryan Sessegnon was sent off in stoppage time, there was a major sense of here we go again.
Thankfully, this time it was not and Fulham fans were able to breathe a big sigh of relief at Craven Cottage.
Now, after reflecting, Fulham’s shape for this match was the best and most balanced it has been.
The midfield pairing of Sander Berge and Shea Charles are forming a good relationship, which is a major contributing factor to Fulham’s improving defensive stats and, in turn, to them keeping more of the ball.
If you look at a performance like Hull, it seems impossible that Fulham did not rack up an impressive scoreline.
Football is a tricky sport in that there is always something else to go for, something else to target.
Fulham’s was to get their first win, now they have done that, it will be to get their next and this time to be more convincing on the scoresheet.
It feels like it is a matter of time until they do so but until they improve on their finishing, there will be more nervy days ahead.
