Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase was hit with two separate fines of $14,926 for "obscene gestures" during this year's Week 2 matchup against the Houston Texans.
Chase's wide receiver teammate Tee Higgins was also fined several times for the same celebration, which they say is an interpretation of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's "people's elbow" wrestling move.
Chase won appeals on both fines, the NFL announced on Tuesday.
“On appeal, Mr. Chase … further contended that even if he committed the violation, his fine should be reduced because he received no warning that this was not allowed," the appeals office letter read, via NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
In his appeals, Chase called out the NFL for "assuming the worst" of his celebration with Higgins.
“He added that this is a new celebration with his teammate and that it is not offensive. Mr. Chase finally stated that the NFL is assuming the worst of him and his teammate without discussing with the NFLPA," the letter continued.
So far, there's no word on the three $14,926 fines levied against Higgins for the same celebration.
