Italy international Issa Doumbia has scored his first ever Champions League goal to send Sporting CP 2-0 up away against RC Lens in one of Tuesday’s early kick-offs.
The former Venezia midfielder kept his composure to slot away while one-on-one with Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser after being sent through with a line-breaking through ball from second-half substitute Silas Andersen.
This was Doumbia’s second appearance in the competition, having joined Sporting from Venezia in a deal worth €20m plus up to €6m in bonuses during the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old now has an €80m release clause in his contract.
He has since earned his first caps for the Italy national team as well, earning his debut under Roberto Mancini during the September-October international break.
He appeared as a second-half substitute in the first three matches of the recent international break, against Belgium, Turkiye and France, and started for the Azzurri for the first time in their most recent 3-1 victory over Turkiye.
