A 46-year-old Indian national and two security operatives are in Police net in Ibadan over alleged assault on truck drivers.
A statement Wednesday by the Oyo state Police command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the 3 suspects were arrested in connection with a viral video showing the alleged assault of two truck drivers at Karma Agric Feeds and Foods Limited, located at Kilometer 12, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ibadan.
He stated that the command’s attention was drawn to the video on Tuesday, at about 0830 hours, prompting the Commissioner of Police, Oyo state command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, to direct detectives to identify and apprehend all persons involved for investigation.
The PPRO stated that preliminary findings indicate that the confrontation stemmed from a disagreement over the parking of a truck that delivered goods to the company on Saturday.
He said: “According to the truck owner, Akinpelu Sarafa, male, aged 47, the driver objected to a designated parking spot over concerns that it could damage the truck’s tyres.
“However, he was reportedly compelled to park there, and one of the tyres subsequently burst.
“The disagreement reportedly intensified when the driver requested a replacement tyre, but the company declined. In response, the driver allegedly used his truck to block the company’s entrance, triggering a physical confrontation involving the drivers, security operatives and an Indian national.
“The two victims have been identified as Ridwan Olajide, male, aged 34, and Taiwo Yinusa, male, aged 37. Both were admitted to a hospital in the Academy area of Ibadan for medical attention.”
“As part of efforts to establish the facts, the Investigating Police Officer visited them at the hospital and obtained their statements.”
