A bank employee has been charged with allegedly hacking a banking system and duplicating two user profiles in a suspected plot to steal from the financial institution.
The employee appeared before Milimani Resident Magistrate Irene Thamara on Friday, October 23, where he denied charges of unauthorised computer access, attempted theft by servant and conspiracy to commit a felony.
According to the charge sheet seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the alleged offences occurred on diverse dates between May 2026 and October 21, 2026, with other individuals who have not been presented before the court.
The prosecution alleges that the employee secured unauthorised access to the bank’s computer system by duplicating two user profiles on its Finacle banking platform, identified as VM53601 and BC 23924.

The charge sheet states that the alleged unauthorised access was intended to facilitate a further offence of theft from the financial institution.
At the same time, the employee is accused of acting jointly with other individuals who have not yet been presented before the court.
“You secured unauthorised access to a computer system belonging to the bank by duplicating Finacle user profiles VM53601 and BC 23924 with intent to commit a further offence, namely theft,” the charge sheet reads in part.
Meanwhile, the employee also faces a charge of attempted stealing by servant under Section 389 of the Penal Code.
The prosecution alleges that duplicating the two user profiles was part of an attempt to steal from the financial institution.
Finacle is banking software used by financial institutions to manage operations such as customer accounts and transactions.
User profiles determine the permissions assigned to individuals accessing a system, including the functions they can perform.
He denied all three charges and was released on a cash bail of Ksh200,000 or an alternative bond of Ksh600,000 as the case proceeds.
