NFL insider Tom Pelissero corrected his earlier account of Jalen Hurts’ medical situation after the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback’s agent clarified what happened before his Week 5 game against Jacksonville.
Pelissero initially reported that Hurts was expected to miss “multiple months after new imaging” revealed several blood clots in his lungs. He also claimed doctors had advised Hurts “not to sleep” following an initial diagnosis in London.
“How committed is Jalen Hurts to football?” Pelissero wrote on X. He added that Hurts had been awake for roughly 36 hours when he started against the Jaguars, saying, “he had been awake for roughly 36 hours… throwing for 220 yards and a TD.”

However, Pelissero later updated his account after speaking with Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lynn.
“Just spoke to Jalen Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lynn, who clarified that while Hurts was up until early Sunday morning getting evaluated at a hospital, he was able to sleep upon rejoining the team and the Eagles set aside a room for him at the stadium,” Pelissero wrote.
“Videos from the stadium show Hurts coming onto the field just before kickoff and he felt rested enough to play.”

Jalen Hurts’ health concerns overshadow his commitment
The clarification changes an important detail surrounding Hurts’ preparation for the Jacksonville game. Rather than remaining awake for roughly 36 hours, he was able to rest after his hospital evaluation.
Still, the larger medical concern remains serious. Subsequent testing reportedly revealed blood clots in Hurts’ lungs, prompting expectations that he would miss the remainder of the 2026 season.
The Eagles quarterback had played against Jacksonville despite the earlier diagnosis, completing 18 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown. His availability became a major talking point after the subsequent medical findings.

Hurts’ situation has also led to debate about the importance of accurate reporting when discussing potentially serious health conditions. Pelissero’s correction provides additional context without changing the reported severity of the diagnosis.
Meanwhile, the Eagles’ statement says, “We expect a full recovery… anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners.”
Philadelphia must now prepare to move forward without its franchise quarterback. Hurts’ recovery will take priority as the Eagles navigate the remainder of their season.
