Overview

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio has carved out a tiny portion of the compact luxury SUV segment by appealing to the senses. And while its fashionable Italian styling and passionate driving character have carried the Stelvio this far, it is nonetheless due for an update. That is exactly what Alfa has planned for the 2028 model year, re-upping the Stelvio's allure with new sheetmetal and updated mechanicals.

Expert Tip: The current Stelvio is one of the better performers in its class, and now is a great time to negotiate a good deal on remaining inventory.

What's New for 2028?

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio is expected to move to a new generation for the 2028 model year. The upcoming Stelvio could be built on Stellantis's new STLA Large vehicle platform, which underpins the Dodge Charger and the Jeep Wagoneer S. The new platform could influence everything from the new Alfa's proportions to its available powertrain options. We will update this story with more details when we have them.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

We aren't completely sure what the next-generation Stelvio will be packing under its hood, but it could be a version of the 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-6 found in the Dodge Charger. In the Charger, that engine makes 420 horsepower in its standard tune and 550 horsepower in "High Output" guise. While Alfa hasn't confirmed it, an electric Stelvio might also join the lineup at some point using the dual-motor powertrain from the electric Charger Daytona.
