Manchester City had to fight their way to a 3-2 win over Ipswich Town yesterday at the Etihad Stadium. Enzo Maresca’s side did dominate large portions of yesterday’s match but the newly promoted Ipswich Town never gave up the fight. A brace from Erling Haaland and a first-half goal from Phil Foden were enough for City to see off Gary O’Neil’s stubborn side. Ipswich Town saw Daizen Maeda and Zian Flemming bag a goal in each half as two errors from Marc Guehi kept the visitors in the match. There is no doubt that City had to fight their way to their seventh consecutive win in the Premier League yesterday and City’s win may have come at a cost as injury concerns piled up for City.
Manchester City were left counting the cost at the final whistle against Ipswich Town.
Come the final whistle yesterday against Ipswich Town, Manchester City resembled the walking wounded. Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo were hobbling on the pitch and three other players had been taken off due to injury. Matheus Nunes, Mateo Kovacic and Nico O’Reilly all had to be taken off due to injury. That was City’s biggest concern coming out of yesterday’s match.
It remains to be seen how long each of the five players that went down injured for Manchester City will be out for. The hope is that each of the players who picked up injuries aren’t sidelined for a significant period of time. Enzo Maresca’s side face AEK Athens in their third UEFA Champions League league phase fixture on Tuesday night. A safe bet is that each of the five players that sustained injuries are in doubt for that match.
Enzo Maresca had a positive update on several players fitness after yesterday’s match.
Speaking after his team beat Ipswich Town, Enzo Maresca did provide an update on the status of several of his injured players. Based on Maresca’s update, Antoine Semenyo is City’s biggest concern. The City manager said when asked about the status of the five injured players: “I asked all of them. Mateo said he was okay. Matheus said he was okay. Erling said he was also okay.”
“Nico it’s still his back. If you remember against Coventry in the warm-up, it’s the same problem.“
“The only one we need to wait on was Antoine and we will see.“
Manchester City picked up all three points against Ipswich Town yesterday. The match was a hard-fought affair at the Etihad Stadium. Unfortunately, five City players picked up injuries yesterday. Based on Enzo Maresca’s update, the situation may not be as bad as first thought. If that proves to be the case, it would be a huge boost for the Premier League leaders.
