Dibrugarh:
The bodies of a 42-year-old man and his two minor children were recovered from a locked house at Kakawani Block village in Tingkhong in the Dibrugarh district on Wednesday in a suspected case of murder-suicide.
Those who died have been identified as Bablu Kairi and his two children, Ujjwal Kairi and Priyanshi Kairi, aged six and eight years.
The incident came to light after police received information about the deaths and rushed to the spot along with senior officers. According to a police official, both doors of the house were locked from inside. After following the required videography procedures, police broke open the doors and entered the house, where they found the three bodies.
"One of the children's bodies was found lying on the floor, while the bodies of the other child and the father were found hanging. We have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the deaths," a police official said.
During the inspection, police found several damaged items inside the house, including a mobile phone, a metal milk container and some kitchen utensils. Investigators are examining these findings as part of the probe.
According to statements from neighbours and other witnesses, Kairi's wife had left home around one-and-a-half months ago to work outside the state. Police were informed that she had gone to Chennai for employment. Kairi had reportedly been staying with and looking after the two children since her departure.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear. While a suspected murder-suicide angle is being investigated, police have not yet established the sequence of events or the precise cause of death.
A forensic team examined the scene and collected evidence. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the cause and approximate time of death.
Police said the investigation was continuing and that statements from neighbours and other witnesses were being examined to establish what transpired inside the house.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the village, with residents expressing disbelief over the deaths of the two young children and their father.
