The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has awarded the 2026 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel to Robert E Hall and Michael Woodford for their work on "microeconomic foundations of macroeconomic stabilisation".
The two economists developed macroeconomic models that have significantly improved the ability of policymakers to implement effective stabilisation measures, according to the award announcement.
Based on these models, well-timed fiscal and monetary policy measures can help reduce economic peaks and troughs.
