A short video of a repaired pothole stamped with the DA's logo is making South Africans laugh and argue in equal measure.
Posted on 18 October 2026 by @dropmag_za and @everythingsamusic, the clip captured a street-level view of a patched road surface bearing the Democratic Alliance's branding. On-screen text read:
"So DA decided to put their name on potholes they fixed."
The video struck a nerve because of what it reveals about South African politics. Fixing potholes is standard municipal work, but branding that work with a party's logo turns basic service delivery into a campaign statement, and that distinction was not lost on viewers.
DA's pothole branding divides Mzansi
Some found the whole thing amusing. Others raised a pointed question: if the logo is there, who gets credit when the patch crumbles? One commenter noted the repair method itself may not hold, adding a layer of irony to the political theatre.

South Africans in the comments had plenty to say on the page:
@dropmag_za wrote:
"Welcome to Mzansi 🤣🤣😭"
@kingsleymonareng reacted:
"That's craaazyyy 😂😂"
@4g_juniors_ added:
"Can they please also watermark the shacks in Khayelitsha"
@dee_oritval offered some context:
"To be fair ANC was gonna get credit 😂 what a petty country we are 😂😂"
@muc_05_ pointed out:
"That's not how you permanently repair a pothole."
South Africa's pothole problem is well documented. Poor road maintenance has long been a flashpoint between residents and local government, making the DA's decision to brand its repairs both a political calculation and an easy target for ridicule.
