A man was killed on the spot after a speeding truck hit him at Harmoti, near Kaziranga National Park, on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Rashid Ali, a resident of Harmoti.
The truck involved in the accident bears registration number AS 27 C 7481. According to local residents, the accident occurred when the driver allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle while driving on the wrong side of the road.
Residents also alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Police have detained the driver, identified as Sikandar Mandal, in connection with the accident. Bagori Police are looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
