Kohima, Oct 25: Nagaland Minister Imna Along has clarified that no consultations have been held so far on the proposed privatisation, stating that the process is still at the preliminary paperwork stage. He assured that all stakeholders would be consulted before any further decisions are taken.
Speaking to the media, Along cautioned against misrepresenting his remarks, emphasising that no discussions on the issue had taken place yet.
“No, don’t put words into our mouth. It is not that we have had consultation on that issue,” he said.
The Minister said the state government, the Department of Tourism and the High Power Committee headed by Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio were currently working on the preliminary requirements in coordination with the concerned line departments.
He assured that stakeholders would be given due consideration and that proper consultations would be held before the government moved forward with the proposal.
Meanwhile, Along confirmed that President Droupadi Murmu has consented to attend the opening day of the Hornbill Festival 2026 as the chief guest on December 1, which coincides with Nagaland Statehood Day.
On the recently inaugurated Polo Hotel Kohima, the Minister said the property had been leased to the Polo Group and was expected to begin operations once the necessary arrangements were completed. He clarified that its classification as a five-star hotel would depend on the prescribed rating process.
On the financial and administrative aspects, Along said the necessary modalities relating to government revenue had been documented. The Tourism Department would also coordinate with the Union Ministry of Tourism in New Delhi to address the relevant requirements, he added.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to keeping the public informed, the Minister said further details would be shared through the media as they became available. He maintained that stakeholder consultation would be an essential part of the process before any final decision was taken
