Activists in Bengaluru carried the national flag as part of a nationwide Tiranga March from the Military Memorial to the Quit India Movement Memorial, via the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), in solidarity with those arrested and detained for attempting to hoist the national flag in Delhi earlier this week.
Activists in Bengaluru were denied permission to carry out the march. However, a group of five turned up at the venue and marched outside the CEO’s office amid police presence.
The march in Bengaluru was part of a nationwide ‘Tiranga March’ organised in solidarity with CJP spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who, along with 12 other CJP members, were remanded to five days in judicial custody on October 14. The arrests followed their entry into Jantar Mantar after the Delhi Police had de-notified it as a designated protest site on October 12. The police action followed their passage through private premises.

A day earlier, student groups, including the All India Students’ Association (AISA), and other organisations and unions had gathered outside Town Hall for the march but were detained after the police denied permission for the October 17 march. However, just a day earlier, on October 16, the city police had granted permission for the Tiranga March at the same venue, Town Hall, where it was held peacefully. The very next day (October 17, 2026), the police denied permission and detained protesters, prompting civil society groups to question the “double standards” of the Congress-ruled State, whose leaders have otherwise condemned similar police action in BJP-ruled States.
