A Los Angeles hospitality group placed a USD 60,000 Kalshi trade against a Dodgers World Series appearance, collecting a payout after their elimination. The group operates 25 bars, including many near Dodger Stadium, and expected fewer sales without further postseason games. Kalshi said the winning position returned nearly twice the initial stake.
The trade paid off after the Milwaukee Brewers swept Los Angeles in the National League Championship Series. Milwaukee completed the four-game series with a 6-4 victory on October 15, ending the Dodgers' bid for a third straight championship.
Kalshi Trade Offsets Lost Dodgers Game Revenue
Bars near Dodger Stadium can draw customers when the Dodgers play, even if the games take place outside Los Angeles. A World Series appearance would have given the businesses more chances to serve fans gathering for games.
Instead, the Dodgers' elimination ended those opportunities. The hospitality operator had taken a position on Kalshi that would pay if Los Angeles failed to advance. The result turned a sports outcome into a payment connected to its business exposure.
Kalshi said the group committed USD 60,000 and received almost twice that amount. Total proceeds therefore approached USD 120,000, although the platform did not disclose a precise figure. That amount represents the return of the stake plus the gain, not profit alone.
The exchange also did not provide the transaction's fees, net earnings or the group's lost revenue. As a result, the figures do not establish how much of the expected shortfall the payout covered.
How Prediction Markets Can Help Businesses Hedge
Could a contract tied to a baseball result help protect a business against a drop in customer spending? The group's trade illustrates how firms can link a market position to an event that affects sales.
Kalshi offers contracts on yes-or-no outcomes across sports, politics, economics and entertainment. Winning contracts generally settle at a fixed value, while losing positions can cost traders their initial investment.
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission describes event contracts as products that people can use either to hedge economic risks or to speculate. In this case, the group's concern involved customer traffic rather than a change in commodity, currency or interest-rate prices.
Unlike standard market hedges, this position targeted potential lost bar revenue from a single baseball outcome.
The strategy carried a cost if the Dodgers advanced. In that scenario, the bars could have gained more game-related business, while the position against a World Series appearance could have lost value.
Even with a winning position, a payout cannot match revenue losses automatically. Sales depend on the number of visitors, their spending and the costs of operating each bar. Contract prices, trading fees and available liquidity also affect results.

Kalshi Expands Baseball Presence as Event Trading Grows
The case comes after Kalshi announced partnerships with five Major League Baseball teams in August, including the Dodgers. The Los Angeles deal gave Kalshi stadium signage, branded fan activities and naming rights to an existing bar at Dodger Stadium.
Those partnerships connect the event-trading platform with baseball audiences. Separately, the hospitality group's trade shows how an operator can use a sporting result as the basis for a financial position.
Kalshi allows users worldwide to trade binary contracts that depend on specific outcomes. For a business with revenue tied to sporting events, that structure creates a way to take a position against an unwanted result.
However, such contracts do not provide guaranteed protection. Traders must account for prices, fees, market depth and how closely an event outcome tracks the actual effect on sales.
The Brewers' victory also sent Milwaukee to its first World Series since 1982. For the Los Angeles operator, that same result triggered the successful trade, although the platform did not report the bars' final sales figures.
Conclusion
The Los Angeles hospitality group's USD 60,000 Kalshi trade returned nearly twice its stake after the Dodgers missed the World Series. The payout helped offset expected losses across its 25 bars. However, undisclosed revenue figures and trading costs leave the hedge's overall effectiveness uncertain, despite the successful outcome.
