KALIMANTAN accounted for 326 hotspots, up from 212 on Oct 10, while Sumatra recorded 303, surging from just 17 over the same period.
The latest figures put Kalimantan ahead of other areas in the region, with Sumatra also registering a substantial increase in potential fire locations.
In Malaysia, only one hotspot was detected in Peninsular Malaysia, while Sabah and Sarawak recorded none.
ASMC said the data was based on satellite imagery from the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
It cautioned that hotspots indicate locations where fires may be occurring, but detection can be affected by cloudy conditions or incomplete satellite coverage. - October 14, 2026
