The Sampigehalli police have registered a case against the management of a private college for allegedly assaulting, forcibly confining and threatening a 17-year-old I PU student, in connection with a protest at the college in Kogilu, Yelahanka, demanding Dasara vacation.
The complaint alleged that at least 15 other students, all studying at the Presidency PU College, Yelahanka, were subjected to the harassment.
In the complaint lodged by the boy’s father, the alleged incidents reportedly took place between October 13 and 15.
On October 15, the student’s father said he received an email from the college stating that his son would be issued a transfer certificate (TC). The father then questioned his son who narrated the alleged sequence of events.
The students had reportedly gathered on the college premises on October 13 and urged the principal to declare a holiday for Dasara. When they returned to the college the following day, around 15 to 20 students who took part in the protest were allegedly taken into a computer room by the college head, Salman.
The students were allegedly denied drinking water and food until 5 p.m. They were permitted to use the washroom only when accompanied by a staff member. Their college identity cards were also allegedly taken away, while the computer room was locked and around 15 to 20 bouncers were deployed outside.
The complaint alleged that Salman forced the confined students to kneel down and hold their ears as punishment. Due to the development, the student was under depression and have suicidal tendencies. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against Salman and others charging them for wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation and under Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, for further investigation.
Speaking to The Hindu later in the day, the complainant said that the issue had been “resolved” as the college management revoked the decision of issuing the TC to his son.
The college management was not available for a comment.
