State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku has called for vigilance against anti-state conspiracies, saying national unity is essential to protecting Bangladesh's peace and stability.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at the monthly meeting of the Dhaka District Law and Order Committee at the deputy commissioner's office today (12 October), according to the press release.
Tuku, who also oversees law enforcement and development activities in Dhaka district, said Bangladeshis had overcome numerous crises and conspiracies through unity.
"Various evil forces may attempt to hatch conspiracies, but no one can succeed by turning the people against one another," he said.
Highlighting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's vision, Tuku said the prime minister consistently advocated national progress through unity under a common Bangladeshi identity.
He urged stakeholders to uphold that spirit to safeguard peace, communal harmony and democratic progress, and work together to fulfil public expectations under an elected government.
Tuku said Bangladesh had a longstanding tradition of communal harmony, with people of different faiths and backgrounds joining in religious celebrations.
He called on officials and citizens to perform their responsibilities sincerely to preserve that unity.
Referring to assistance for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, he said financial allocations had been made for the festivities.
He instructed the authorities concerned to distribute the funds strictly in accordance with government directives and guidelines.
Expressing concern about the spread of narcotics, Tuku described drug abuse as a serious national problem requiring immediate and effective action.
He urged law enforcement agencies and the Department of Narcotics Control to prioritise the issue.
The state minister also stressed the need for coordination among the district administration, police, upazila authorities and local public representatives to ensure safe and smooth movement during Durga Puja.
He sought cooperation from government departments, Puja celebration committees and citizens to ensure peaceful, safe and festive celebrations.
Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam chaired the meeting.
Dhaka-4 MP Syed Jainul Abedin, reserved women's seat MP Sanjida Islam Tuli, Superintendent of Police Shamima Parveen, representatives of law enforcement agencies, local government officials and district law and order committee members attended.
