The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has pledged to mobilise 10 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing ongoing education reforms under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Alausa, who chairs the Education Mobilisation Working Group of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, made the commitment while congratulating Tinubu on the reported successful launch of the party’s North West zonal presidential campaign in Kaduna.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Ikharo Attah, the minister said the turnout at the campaign rally had strengthened his group’s resolve to intensify political engagement across the education sector.
He said the mobilisation drive would involve stakeholders in universities, polytechnics, monotechnics, colleges of education and other educational institutions across the country.
Alausa also highlighted the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), a six-pillar reform programme of the Federal Ministry of Education designed to expand access to education, improve learning outcomes and develop a skills-driven, knowledge-based economy.
He identified the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme as a major component of the initiative, noting that it provides tuition-free vocational training, monthly stipends and pathways to employment and entrepreneurship.
According to figures contained in the statement, the TVET programme had received more than 1.3 million applications, matched 160,000 young Nigerians with training opportunities and disbursed approximately ₦13.98 billion to training centres and trainees.
The minister also cited the Nigerian Education Data Infrastructure (NEDI), the EduRevamp teacher development platform, increased investment in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medical Sciences (STEMM), and targeted interventions for out-of-school children and girls’ education as other components of the reforms.
“These initiatives are opening new opportunities for young Nigerians, strengthening teaching and learning, and positioning education as a driver of skills, innovation and national development,” Alausa said.
He added that the Kaduna campaign launch had provided fresh momentum for the mobilisation group to expand its nationwide engagement and communicate the impact of the administration’s education policies to stakeholders.
The minister reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to implementing NESRI and working with education stakeholders to improve access, skills development, learning outcomes and the quality of education nationwide.
However, the proposed mobilisation target of 10 million votes represents a political objective of the campaign working group. Its eventual achievement will depend on the group’s ability to engage voters and translate its mobilisation activities into electoral support.
