Dead Man’s Bones, the spectral rock duo of Ryan Gosling and screenwriter Zach Shields, are planning a comeback 17 years after their first and only album. Eva Mendes, Gosling’s wife, started teasing the return yesterday in a post designed to “summon new music from DEAD MAN’S BONES.” She followed it with two spooky visuals—one cross-posted with the new Dead Man’s Bones Instagram page—in which a voice ominously intones a spell to conjure the project for a twilight dance on October 27.
The original Dead Man’s Bones album was a 2009 collaboration with the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir, a California education organization founded by Flea. The duo has lain dormant since its promotional run behind that LP, though one of its songs, “Pa Pa Power,” found its way onto Cat Power’s 2022 album Covers.
