IKUNGI, SINGIDA: The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in Singida region has introduced a new strategy of using traditional dance to educate the public on the effects of corruption and the importance of integrity in society.
This was demonstrated during a traditional dance festival held in Iyumbu ward, Ikungi district, Singida over the weekend, where various groups performed skillfully while emphasizing the slogan ‘Our Dance, Our Integrity’ (Ngoma Zetu, Uadilifu Wetu).
Speaking during the opening of the festival, the Singida PCCB Regional Bureau Chief, Sosthenes Kibwengo stated that Tanzanian societies possess a rich wealth of traditions, customs, songs, dances, and various arts that can be used to educate and mobilize community in fighting grafts.
“For a long time, traditional dances have been an important part of our lives, used to deliver messages and pass down knowledge and values from one generation to the next,” Kibwengo said.
According to the regional chief, PCCB decided to use this message to promote integrity through culture in order to build a society that values justice, equality, and development.
“I would like to use this opportunity to explain that integrity does not reside in government offices alone. Integrity begins at home, at school, in business, in social activities, and in our workplaces,” he emphasized at the festival, where the guest of honor was the District Administrative Secretary of Ikungi, Mr Rashidi Rashidi.

He added that the fight against corruption begins with the decisions citizens make every day hence they reject it, they protect their rights, and when they report incidents of corruption, they support accountability.
“I call upon the residents of Iyumbu Ward and Ikungi District as a whole to continue cooperating with PCCB and other leaders in building a society that rejects corruption and values integrity,” he added.
He explained that this festival is more than just entertainment; it is a platform that unites the wealth of our culture with the fight against corruption, using art as a tool to educate society about the negative impacts of corruption, foster accountability, and build strong foundations of integrity.
He stated that corruption is an obstacle to development and weakens the delivery of quality services, leads to the misuse of public resources, erodes public trust in their institutions, and can deny citizens the rights they deserve.
He further elaborated that its negative impacts touch the daily lives of citizens, ranging from healthcare and education services to the execution of development projects.
The phrase “Our Dance” reminds the public of the importance of preserving and promoting culture, while educating and inspire positive change in society.
While the phrase “Our Integrity” reminds that each of member of community has a responsibility to be honest, act justly, respect the law, and refuse to engage in acts of corruption.
