The Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) has sought explanations from 26 institutions offering the Higher Secondary Certificate (Business Management and Technology) programme for failing to enrol students for three consecutive years, warning that their teaching approval could be cancelled.
In a notice issued on October 19, the board gave the institutions that have yet to respond seven working days to explain why their teaching approval should not be withdrawn. The proposed measures include suspending admissions from the 2027-28 academic session and cancelling permission to conduct classes.
The latest notice followed two earlier notices issued on September 20 and October 4. The first set October 1 as the deadline for submitting explanations, while the second granted the institutions an additional seven working days. The board issued the latest notice after some institutions failed to respond within the stipulated time.
According to BTEB, teaching approval may be cancelled if an institution fails to enrol students for three consecutive years.
The board cited Rule 5.4 of the Policy on Teaching and Recognition of Private Technical Education Board Institutions for the HSC (BMT) Programme, 2020. Under the provision, the board may cancel teaching approval, subject to government approval, if an institution fails to meet the required conditions within the prescribed period.
These conditions include maintaining satisfactory academic results, ensuring adequate classrooms and facilities, appointing teachers and staff, forming a management committee, and providing furniture, equipment and library facilities.
