The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that it was not briefed about the inauguration of the State Presidential Campaign Committee for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election to be coordinated by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

In a statement, the APC State Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, said although the party considers President Tinubu’s re-election a collective responsibility and has been working assiduously towards achieving the goal through various means, the exercise should be properly planned and coordinated.
Lawal reiterated that the party was unaware of any planned inauguration until the names of some committee members were published on social media on Wednesday by Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed.
He said the development came as a surprise to the party’s leaders, members and supporters.
“Aside from the fact that not every piece of information on social media should be taken as genuine, less than 12 hours’ notice is too short, as many people who would have attended may already have been excluded,” he said.
The APC chairman described the publication of the committee members’ names less than 24 hours before the inauguration, without prior consultation with the party’s state leadership, as a possible attempt to create discord between the party and the President.
He maintained that the re-election bid was a priority for the APC and should not be handled with levity.
“We are talking about the re-election of the President of the country under the largest political party in sub-Saharan Africa, not the election of a local government chairman or councillor. This is why the exercise should be approached with the highest level of official protocol required to ensure its success,” Lawal said.
According to the party, the current arrangement for the State Presidential Campaign Committee appeared designed to create unnecessary misunderstanding between the APC and the appointed state campaign coordinator.
The party, however, stressed that it was not opposed to making concessions to ensure President Tinubu’s re-election, insisting that the process must be properly managed to achieve the desired results.
It also expressed confidence that Governor Adeleke’s appointment as coordinator of the President’s re-election campaign in Osun State could improve the President’s electoral prospects through the collective efforts and contributions of the political parties involved.
