Barcelona head to Paris to take on PSG with a much-depleted defence following injuries to Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia.
The Catalan giants were already without the services of Andreas Christensen, and these latest two injuries have complicated Hansi Flick’s plans.
As always, Barça have turned to La Masia during a time of crisis, and Alex Campos has received his first senior call-up against PSG.
Interestingly, one member of Hansi Flick’s coaching staff has played a particularly important role in the youngster’s journey to the first team.
According to SPORT, Flick’s assistant Arnau Blanco has known Campos since 2019 and was involved in both his recruitment and development at La Masia.
Arnau Blanco’s long-standing connection with Alex Campos
Blanco first spotted Campos while working alongside Albert Puig in Barcelona’s Infantil B set-up.
The young defender was playing for Atletic Segre, and both coaches quickly recognised his potential.
Instead of forcing his move to Barcelona immediately, they chose a more unconventional route.
The coaches allowed him to stay at his club and playing there while allowing him to train with La Masia.

He eventually joined Barcelona in 2021, initially developing as a central defender despite previously impressing in midfield.
Their paths crossed again during the 2023-24 season, when Blanco coached Campos in Barcelona’s Cadete A.
The defender started all 30 league matches that campaign, establishing himself as a crucial player in a successful youth team.
Why Blanco’s influence matters ahead of PSG
Campos has continued progressing under Juliano Belletti at Barça Atletic, where his performances alongside Hafiz Gariba have strengthened his reputation.
The youngster stands out for his composure, passing ability and confidence when building attacks from defence.
Although naturally right-footed, he can operate on either side of central defence, potentially making him a useful partner for Pau Cubarsi.

His defensive prowess has increased significantly, adding greater reliability to his ability on the ball.
With Eric, Kounde and Christensen unavailable, Campos is now with the team in Paris and could even make his first-team debut during the game.
Blanco’s presence could now become particularly valuable. Having followed the defender’s development for years, he could help with his integration into the first team.
Gerard Martin is not 100 percent fit coming into this game, and the Spaniard may not be able to play 90 minutes against PSG.
Should Flick need an option off the bench, Campos could potentially be thrown in at the deep end at a difficult ground like the Parc des Princes.
It remains to be seen whether the 18-year-old gets any minutes against Luis Enrique’s side and how his first-team future pans out.
