Troops kill two terrorists, seize four AK-47 rifles in Sokoto

Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have killed two terrorists and recovered four AK-47 rifles, eight motorcycles and ammunition during clearance operations in Sokoto State.

The operation, conducted on Thursday, also led to the recovery of four rifle magazines, a communication device and other items abandoned by fleeing terrorists.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.

Danja said troops of Sector 2 engaged terrorists at Waria Forest, where one of them was killed during a gun battle.

According to him, the troops recovered two AK-47 rifles and two motorcycles at the scene.

He added that the troops subsequently encountered another group of terrorists at Sarma Village, killing one of them during an exchange of gunfire.

“In a subsequent encounter at Sarma Village, troops engaged another group of terrorists in a firefight, neutralising one and forcing others to flee, abandoning their equipment,” the statement said.

Danja said further searches of the area led to the recovery of six additional motorcycles, two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, 23 rounds of ammunition and a communication device.

The recoveries brought the total number of motorcycles seized during the operations to eight, while four AK-47 rifles were recovered from the two locations.

He said the operations demonstrated the military’s determination to dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting peace and security across its area of responsibility.

“These successes underscore the sustained commitment of troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace and security across the Joint Operations Area,” Danja said.

The task force also called on residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information about suspicious activities.

It urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report such activities to the nearest security outpost to support ongoing operations against terrorists in the region.
