The Denver Broncos‘ offense stalled in Week 6, and quarterback Bo Nix took most of the heat. Denver finished with an output that ranks second-worst in the league. Nix averaged a low 5.6 yards per attempt and threw for 107 yards with no touchdowns. Despite these struggles, the Broncos beat the Seattle Seahawks 17-14 in overtime on Thursday to move to a 4-2 record.
After the game, Amazon Prime analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick bluntly questioned Nix’s effort. Broncos great Ed McCaffrey defended the quarterback on social media the next day, telling critics to back off and urging fans to enjoy the win.
Ed McCaffrey defends Bo Nix from critics
Fitzpatrick led the criticism on the Prime Video broadcast. He said Nix has lost head coach Sean Payton’s trust and called the play “almost disrespectful to the quarterback position.” He highlighted a third-and-8 play where Payton called a screen pass, but Nix threw the ball away, leaving Seattle with a timeout.
Fitzpatrick also said Nix wasted a designed run to pick up a first down in overtime. Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez agreed with Fitzpatrick, calling the Denver unit “anemic” and pointing out that winning games and a dominant defense are the only things protecting Nix.
McCaffrey did not defend the performance, however. He wrote, “Stop, just stop. Enough already. Apparently winning isn’t enough anymore. Bo Nix and the @Broncos weren’t perfect but they still won the game. Winning in the NFL is hard. Enjoy it.”

When a fan responded that it is fair to criticize the offense, McCaffrey agreed, writing, “Absolutely fair. Criticize the throws, the decisions, the offense. All fair game. But questioning Bo’s heart and desire to win? That’s a different story. And since when did celebrating a win become controversial?
We can do both.”
Some fans told the Broncos legend to calm down because they are looking at the big picture. Others argued Nix looks lost because the team has no running game.
The statistics back their concerns. Through six games, Denver ranks 28th in the league in passing, averaging just 168 yards per game. Nix has completed 114 of 189 passes (60.3%) for 1,008 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions.
