MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said Wednesday it had rescued a 9-year-old child from alleged online sexual abuse and exploitation.
The suspect, who is over 30 years old, was brought to NBI headquarters in Pasay City following his arrest.
NBI Director Melvin Matibag said the bureau’s Anti-Human Trafficking Division conducted the operation in Bulacan after a referral by the victim’s mother.

“Following the referral, we conducted an operation using a warrant to search, seize and examine computer data, which was issued by the Regional Trial Court of Bulacan,” Matibag told reporters during a briefing at the NBI.
The seized devices were turned over to the bureau’s forensic unit for further investigation.
According to Matibag, the suspect had groomed the 9-year-old for six months. The victim was reportedly unaware of the suspect’s age.

The suspect may face charges under Section 4(a) of Republic Act No. 11930, or the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials Act.
“We are looking at other cases that we might be able to file here,” Matibag added.

Matibag also urged parents to monitor their children’s online activities, including whom they communicate with.
“This serves as a warning to us parents to keep a close watch on our children — specifically, to monitor whom they talk to over the phone or through our gadgets,” he said. /das
