From sticky toffee to chocolate fondants, microwave puddings took the UK by storm in the late 80s and 90s.
Brits became obsessed with the hot sponge desserts, which could be warmed and enjoyed in mere moments, cutting out the need to spend two hours slogging over a steamed pudding.
In recent years, the popularity of the treats has fluctuated, but the nostalgic favourite is about to have a big revival at Marks & Spencer.
M&S is launching a brand new range of single-serve hot pudding pots, which get warmed in the microwave and are ready to eat in less than 60 seconds.
What’s in M&S’s new dessert range?
There are six pudding options to choose from, including traditional crumbles, sponges, and cookie dough.
First up, there’s a new Apple & Custard Crumble Pot (£2.50) featuring Bramley apple filling, topped with a layer of Madagascan vanilla custard, and finished off with an all-butter crumble that’s been enriched with oats.
The second crumble is Berry, Apple & Custard flavour (£2.50), and it has all of the same components as the apple one, but with summer berries thrown into the mix too.
Those who love a good old sponge can choose between a Banana, Caramel & Pecan Pudding, and a Chocolate, Orange & Hazelnut one.
Priced at £3 each, the former is a butter sponge flavoured with banana purée and brown sugar, topped with a caramel sauce, and finished with crunchy pecan pieces.
The latter is a rich chocolate sponge with real orange pieces, covered in a chocolate sauce, with a sprinkling of hazelnuts on top.
Rounding out the range, there are two new cookie desserts for fans of M&S’s most iconic bakery item: Double Chocolate Cookie Dough and Raspberry & White Chocolate Cookie Dough.
These cost £3 each, and feature a soft butter cookie dough, sitting on top of a sauce.
The double choc has a dough enriched with brown sugar and features a milk and dark chocolate sauce, while the white chocolate features white chocolate pieces (naturally) and a ‘zingy’ raspberry compote.
All six of the puddings are available to purchase in the M&S Foodhall from October 14.
In other food news, there have also been new chocolate treats added to the aisles in Sainsbury’s, with three bars set to rival Tony’s Chocolonely.
And if you’re looking for something savoury to eat, a taste test has revealed the best tinned tomato soup in supermarkets this autumn. Two cheap 59p tins were victorious, beating the likes of Heinz, Waitrose, and M&S.
M&S has also revealed two new Dine In Deals, which feed four people for just £3.75 per head.
