The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has mourned the death of Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, elder statesman and National Leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, describing his life as a remarkable record of service to Nigeria and his community.
Fasoranti, who died aged 100, was announced dead by Ondo state Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, according to a statement issued by the ACF National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba.
The forum described the late elder statesman as a nationalist, politician and community leader who devoted much of his life to progressive politics, good governance and the pursuit of a better Nigeria.
It said Fasoranti remained committed to these ideals throughout his life, despite the country’s missed opportunities for greater national development.
According to the ACF, his emergence as the National Leader of Afenifere reflected the respect he commanded among his people and his standing as a principled and far-sighted leader.
The forum said his life spanned significant periods in Nigeria’s history, from the struggle for independence and the First Republic through the civil war, military rule and the country’s continuing democratic experience.
It added that Fasoranti left behind a formidable record of service to the nation and the Yoruba community, describing his death as an occasion to celebrate a life well lived.
“Pa Fasoranti’s demise is a celebration of life, not a loss to rue but one to pay tribute to,” the statement said.
The ACF extended its condolences to the deceased’s immediate and extended family, friends, the Federal Government, the Yoruba people and Nigerians, as well as those he mentored and others who benefited from his counsel.
The forum prayed that Almighty God would grant him eternal peace.
