Zakaria Abdulai, the incumbent Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Juaben Constituency, has resigned from his position and withdrawn his candidature for the constituency chairmanship election.
In a letter dated October 20, 2026, and addressed to the party’s General Secretary, Abdulai said his resignation and withdrawal from the contest took immediate effect.
He did not provide details of the allegations levelled against him and his office but expressed gratitude to friends, relatives and well-wishers who had maintained their faith in his innocence.
“I wish to express my profound gratitude to my friends, relatives and all well-wishers who have stood by me and maintained their faith in my innocence in the face of the allegations levelled against me and my office,” he stated.
Mr Abdulai also thanked the NDC for giving him the opportunity to serve the party as both a member and an officer, describing it as a privilege to contribute to its growth and development.
He said he intended to devote his attention and resources to pursuing lawful avenues to clear his name and vindicate his position.
He expressed hope that once the matters were resolved, he would be able to return to active political engagement and continue contributing to the ideals and aspirations of the NDC.
Copies of the letter were sent to the NDC National Chairman and the Ashanti Regional Chairman.
