Residents of Dergaon can now look forward to a new cinematic experience with the opening of Mayabini Talkies, a modern cinema hall inaugurated on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shashthi during Durga Puja.
Located near the Naren Sharma Memorial Field in Dergaon, the cinema hall was formally inaugurated by Padma Shri awardee and noted Sattriya exponent Jatin Goswami, who opened the facility by cutting the ribbon.
Owned by popular local dentist and cultural activist Dr Manjil Goswami and businessman Rajiv Dutta, the cinema hall has been established to meet a long-standing demand among residents for a dedicated cinema-viewing facility in the town.
The inauguration ceremony began with a Borgeet and was attended by Dergaon MLA Dr Mridul Kumar Dutta, along with hundreds of local residents and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the occasion.
Mayabini Talkies has two screens and can accommodate more than 200 viewers, offering moviegoers in Dergaon access to a modern cinema experience closer to home.
The cinema hall has been named after the iconic song 'Mayabini', associated with the late Zubeen Garg, whose music continues to hold a special place in the hearts of people across Assam.
The opening of the cinema hall is expected to provide a new platform for film lovers in Dergaon while adding to the town's cultural activities. The initiative has also drawn attention to the role of local individuals in creating spaces for entertainment and community engagement.
Those associated with the project expressed hope that Mayabini Talkies would receive a warm response from the people of Dergaon and audiences from across Assam.
