The festive season often means more groceries, sweets, cold drinks and leftovers competing for space in the refrigerator. Add a few guests to the mix, and even a large double-door fridge can start feeling cramped. A side-by-side refrigerator offers more room to organise fresh food and frozen items separately, making it a practical upgrade for households that regularly stock up on groceries.

You don’t necessarily have to spend a fortune to make that switch. With a budget of Rs 40,000 – Rs 60,000, there are several side-by-side refrigerators to consider during Amazon’s October festive sale.
Here are five models from different brands, along with the features that matter when choosing one for your home.
Midea MDRS710FGF46
The Midea MDRS710FGF46 has a 563-litre capacity, an inverter compressor and a digital display for temperature controls. Its Multi Air Flow system circulates cold air through the refrigerator, while the Express Freezing function helps freeze food more quickly when required. The interior uses toughened glass shelves, and the movable ice tray can be repositioned to free up space in the freezer.

A built-in water dispenser lets you access drinking water without opening the refrigerator door. The model also has a 2-litre door bin for larger bottles, removable racks for flexible storage and separate LED lights in the refrigerator and freezer compartments. These features give the Midea a practical mix of storage and convenience for everyday use.
Haier HRS-682SWDU1
The Haier HRS-682SWDU1 has a 596-litre capacity and a built-in 2.5-litre water dispenser, so you can fill a glass without opening the refrigerator. Its 100% convertible technology lets you change the compartment settings depending on what you’re storing. You can make more room for everyday groceries or adjust the available space when you need to store more frozen food.
You can connect the HRS-682SWDU1 to your home Wi-Fi and use Haier’s Haismart app to change its settings from your phone. Its AI cooling feature adjusts cooling based on usage, which can be handy when the refrigerator is opened frequently or loaded with fresh groceries.
Voltas Beko RSB495/FPV300RXID
With a capacity of 472 litres, the Voltas Beko RSB495/FPV300RXID features a ProSmart Inverter Compressor, electronic temperature controls and an external display. Its frost-free cooling system prevents ice from accumulating inside the freezer, while Multi Air Flow distributes cold air across the compartments. The refrigerator also has dual LED illumination, toughened glass shelves and a removable gasket.
Storage features include a fruit basket, vegetable crispers, bottle shelves and a twisted ice maker. Stabiliser-free operation allows the refrigerator to work within its specified voltage range without requiring a separate stabiliser. The model also has a door lock and an antibacterial gasket, which is designed to help prevent bacterial and fungal build-up around the door seal.
Godrej EONVELVET 646C RIT
The Godrej EONVELVET 646C stands out for its temperature-adjustable convertible zone. Unlike a compartment that remains dedicated to either refrigeration or freezing, this zone can operate between -3°C and 5°C, allowing it to serve as a chiller or additional refrigerator space depending on what you need to store. The 600-litre capacity also makes it suitable for households that buy groceries in bulk.
Godrej has added AI-powered cooling that monitors factors such as food load and door openings to optimise cooling and energy consumption. Its Eco, Holiday and Super Freeze modes serve different situations: Eco mode regulates operation, Holiday mode is intended to reduce energy consumption when the household is away, and Super Freeze helps cool newly stored items quickly. Two 34-litre vegetable trays provide dedicated space for fresh produce, while the movable ice maker can be removed to free up freezer space.
Haier HRS-615LB
The Haier HRS-615LB is an option for buyers who want a large side-by-side refrigerator but don’t necessarily need 600 litres of storage. Its 540-litre capacity is split between the refrigerator and freezer compartments, while the 3-star energy rating makes it worth considering for households comparing electricity consumption alongside storage space. The model also features an inverter compressor and frost-free cooling.
Haier uses its 360° Magic Cooling system to circulate cold air inside the HRS-615LB, while Deo Fresh technology is meant to reduce food odours. Two separate Fresh Drawers give you dedicated space for fruits and vegetables instead of mixing them with the rest of your groceries.
What to check before buying
- Electricity consumption: Check the annual kWh figure on the BEE label. Star ratings provide a quick reference, but the actual consumption figure is more useful when estimating running costs.
- Storage layout: Look at the shelf spacing, door bins and freezer arrangement. Make sure the refrigerator can accommodate your regular containers, bottles and utensils.
- Dimensions: Measure the installation space and the route from the entrance to the kitchen. Side-by-side refrigerators can be difficult to manoeuvre through narrow doorways.
- Warranty and service: Read the comprehensive product warranty and compressor warranty separately. Confirm installation arrangements and authorised service availability for your PIN code.
