It has been a rough start for Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer. He could use some help from Quinnen Williams to get back to his previous form. Trying to push the envelope, Schottenheimer looked at another star, making a dirty-work demand of George Pickens in an attempt to turn around the Cowboys’ season.
Blocking is part of the needed chore, according to a post on X by Jon Machota.
“Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer on WR George Pickens: ‘He needs to understand that he impacts us in the running game as well. He’s got to do the same thing in the run game, picking up safeties and blocking corners, just like Javonte (Williams) does, picking up blitzes so he can catch balls.

‘That’s part of the team-first mindset, and GP does understand that. When he’s going, they’re going to play soft inside. When he’s not going, then the safeties get pretty good runs at our backs. And that’s got to improve.’ ”
Hmmm. Will Pickens do the dirty work? Stay tuned.
Cowboys wanting more from WR George Pickens
One good thing for Pickens is he hasn’t been whining about lack of targets, according to Sports Illustrated.
“GP is one of those guys where I don’t ever see him really affected in terms of, you know, the emotion,” Schottenheimer said. “Does he get the ball? Does he not get the ball? If these guys play a lot of snaps, I think part of it is us rotating those guys through.”
Pickens has 33 grabs for 428 yards and a touchdown. His running mate, CeeDee Lamb, has 48 catches for 577 yards and four scores. It’s still one of the NFL’s best duos.
However, the Cowboys stand at 2-4. And their offense hasn’t been all that great over the last two weeks. And the running game has been a big part of it. The offense has produced just 456 rushing yards, ranking No. 29 in the NFL with a 3.7 average.
Running back Javonte Williams said the numbers are surprising, according to dallasnews.com.
“It was kinda surprising,” running back Javonte Williams said. “I know how good of a team we are.”
