PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik advanced to the Denmark Open quarter-finals after overcoming compatriots Aaron Tai and Roy King Yap 21-18, 21-11 today.
The all-Malaysian last-16 encounter at the SJF Bank Arena in Odense saw the world No. 1 pair control the match against their younger national teammates.
Tai and Roy King entered the contest with confidence after winning the Super 500 Arctic Open title on Sunday.
However, Aaron Chia and Wooi Yik produced a composed performance to maintain their position as Malaysia’s leading men’s doubles combination.
The pair recently resumed their partnership on a permanent basis after briefly going their separate ways.
They will meet either China’s Hu Ke Yuan and Ren Xiang Yi or Japan’s Hiroki Okamura and Kyohei Yamashita in Friday’s quarter-final for a place in the semi-finals.
Malaysia are also assured of another quarter-final berth, with world No. 6 Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani set to face fellow Malaysians Chia Wei Jie and Teo Ee Yi later today.
