He credited the widespread support he received from siblings, close friends and strangers who watched his story on TUKO Talks for helping him regain his footing.
"It opened new doors for me, I got people coming to tell me how strong I was to be vulnerable and share my story, they made me see a part of myself and appreciating the journey that I have been through and this got me a peace of mind and a light in the right direction," he said.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, the captain said he was doing better than ever, had finally found peace of mind and was moving forward with his life.
He said he had forgiven his wife, Lucy, and their children and continued to hope for reconciliation. According to him, there was no need for the family to keep fighting when they could work towards resolving their differences amicably.
Captain Waweru finds peace after public support
He said he had found inner peace, particularly after receiving overwhelming support from his siblings, close friends and strangers who had heard his story on TUKO Talks.
“It opened new doors for me. People came to tell me how strong I was to be vulnerable and share my story. They helped me see another part of myself and appreciate the journey I had been through. This gave me peace of mind and helped point me in the right direction,” he said.
He noted that he was no longer bitter and had changed the way he viewed his estranged wife and their children.
Waweru said he had learnt a great deal from the experience, reflecting on both his mistakes and his strengths. However, he maintained that many of the allegations made against him were false.
He revealed that their case was still before the court but said he had made several attempts to reach out to his wife to resolve their differences amicably, even if lawyers had to be involved.
“I am not blaming her. We all carry the burden. I also have to question myself because there is always a cause and effect, so I have to take a step back and reflect,” he said.
Waweru said he had tried to send a message of goodwill through one of his sons, who had been helping him with the matter. However, he claimed that Lucy continued to view him as the problem.
According to the captain, the family was wasting valuable time fighting over property that should ultimately benefit their children.
He clarified that he had no interest in reuniting with his wife but wanted the legal battles to end.
“I have even tried calling her best friends to make amends because what we are doing is destroying our children. That is why we should make sacrifices and see our children succeed,” he said.
Waweru added that he believed it was time for their children to take over the family's investments rather than have their parents continue fighting over them.
“Please, let us sit down and reason. That is my appeal to her. Let her know that I have no bitterness; all I have is disappointment,” he said.

Former pilot shares new purpose in life
The former pilot said he had learnt that everyone had a purpose in life. He believes his purpose now includes helping people going through similar experiences and encouraging them to develop greater situational awareness.
He added that he had learnt the importance of taking care of himself, noting that people could only effectively help others when they were also looking after their own well-being.
“I want to go out there, help people move away from negative energy and encourage them to make better
Waweru also shared an update on his professional life, revealing that a UK-based firm had approached him following his interview with TUKO.co.ke.
He explained that the organisation's work extended beyond operating flights to include other aviation-related services and opportunities.
He noted that many Kenyans spent considerable amounts of money sending their children abroad for education, despite the availability of aviation training institutions in Kenya.
“Right now, I have a letter of intent for about nine aircraft, so I am looking for people who are interested in investing. Together with my team, we are working towards making it happen. It is taking time, but we want to do it properly and ultimately benefit from it,” he said.
Waweru added that the organisation welcomed people with an interest in aviation and was open to partnering with others to help them achieve their goals.
He explained that its work was not limited to training pilots, as it also involved students pursuing other disciplines, including human resources and engineering.
“We are not necessarily teaching them to fly; we are helping them make better decisions. We also have students studying human resources, engineering and other fields,” he said.
Waweru called on Kenya Airways (KQ) to take a leading role in supporting aviation training and introducing flight schools to expand opportunities for aspiring aviation professionals.
