SHRUB OAK — First half red zone stops and a third quarter offensive explosion propelled Brewster to one of the season's biggest upsets in Section 1 Friday night as the visiting Bears scored 42 unanswered points to defeat playoff-bound Lakeland 42-7.
Brewster, which entered the game with just one win after playing one of the toughest schedules, if not the toughest in the section, scored three touchdowns within just a seven-minute, 10-second span of the third quarter to break open a game that was tied 7-7 at the half.
Two of the scores belonged to Mikey Subin, who had a 54-yard touchdown off an interception and a 44-yard TD run during the Bears' third-quarter onslaught.
Brewster is hoping to pick up an opponent or two to finish out its season. Lakeland, now 5-3, is expected to start the playoffs next week, facing 2025 Class A state champion Rye.
Check back later for more from this game.
