Escambia and Santa Rosa County schools may be closed for the week due to Hurricane Isaias, but volleyball teams will play on.
District tournaments have the green light for teams in both counties, as the state playoffs start next week. Class 1A-3A will play regional quarterfinals on Oct. 20, with classes 4A-6A playing the same round on Oct. 21. The Rural classification state tournament will begin with regional semifinals on Oct. 24.
But first, district champions have to be crowned and several Pensacola area teams are in the hunt. District champions automatically qualify for the state playoffs and will host in the regional quarterfinals unless matched up with a higher-seeded district champion.
Below are the new district tournament schedules for each district.
Navarre (6A), Gulf Breeze (5A), Pensacola Catholic (3A) and Jay (Rural) are the top seeds in their respective districts. Tate (5A), Booker T. Washington (4A) and Central (Rural) were all projected to make the state playoffs according to the Oct. 9 FHSAA rankings.
