The Strokes are returning to Portugal next summer, with the New York rock band confirmed for the opening day of NOS Alive 2027.
Julian Casablancas and co. will take to the NOS Stage on July 8 at Lisbon’s Passeio Marítimo de Algés, joining already-announced acts The Neighbourhood and Beirut.
The concert will also mark The Strokes’ first appearance in Portugal since the 2022 edition of the same festival. Before that, the band performed at Super Bock Super Rock in 2011 and Lisboa Soundz in 2006.
Their return comes following the release this summer of Reality Awaits, the band’s seventh studio album and first since 2020’s Grammy-winning The New Abnormal.
Released on July 24 and produced by Rick Rubin, Reality Awaits features nine new tracks, including “Going Shopping”, and sees the band experimenting with new sounds while retaining the guitar riffs and melodies that have defined much of their career.
Nearly three decades of The Strokes
Formed in New York in 1998, The Strokes became one of the defining alternative rock bands of the early 2000s.
Their 2001 debut Is This It produced enduring tracks including “Last Nite”, “Someday” and “Hard to Explain”, followed two years later by Room on Fire, which included another of their best-known songs, “Reptilia”.
Further albums included First Impressions of Earth in 2006, Angles in 2011 and Comedown Machine in 2013, before The New Abnormal arrived in 2020 and went on to earn the group the Grammy for Best Rock Album.
NOS Alive line-up taking shape
The Strokes are the latest addition to the 19th edition of NOS Alive, which will run from July 8 to 10, 2027.
Alongside The Neighbourhood and Beirut on July 8, names already announced for the festival include Tame Impala, sombr and Myles Smith, with the latter three due to perform on July 10.
Daily tickets currently cost €89, two-day passes €178 and a three-day pass €210.
