THE national women football team, Twiga Stars deserve wholehearted congratulations for making an emphatic start to campaign for a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Their commanding 7-1 aggregate victory over Botswana is a result worth celebrating, reflecting the determination, discipline and attacking quality of the team.
The ladies deserve every commendation for an outstanding performance across the two-legged tie.
They began by securing a valuable 1-0 victory away from home in Gaborone, demonstrating resilience and composure under pressure.
They then returned home on Tuesday and delivered an emphatic 6-1 triumph, confirming readiness for the challenge and their determination to progress in the competition.
This was more than just a victory; it was a statement of intent. The players showed that when properly prepared and united behind a common goal, they have the ability to compete with confidence and deliver impressive results.
Their achievement should inspire pride among Tanzanians and provide renewed belief in the potential of women’s football in the country. However, while the celebrations are fine, Twiga Stars must remain focused.
Their next opponents, Ethiopia, advanced after edging past Rwanda 2-1 on aggregate.

This suggests that the forthcoming encounter will demand further tactical discipline, concentration and commitment from the Tanzanian side.
The road to Los Angeles remains long. Africa’s Olympic qualifying tournament consists of five knockout rounds, with ties decided over two legs home and away.
Should Twiga overcome Ethiopia, they will still need to negotiate two further rounds to secure an Olympic ticket. Every match, therefore, requires careful preparation and the same fighting spirit displayed against Botswana.
At this crucial stage, supporters also have an important role to play. Tanzanians should rally behind the team, celebrate its achievements and offer encouragement throughout the campaign.
Constructive support can help boost the players’ confidence, particularly when the pressure intensifies. Equally, the players must continue to trust their coach’s plans, execute the tactics effectively and maintain the teamwork that has brought them this far.
The technical bench, meanwhile, must study Ethiopia carefully and prepare a strategy suited to the challenge ahead.
The Botswana victory has given Twiga Stars a strong foundation, but the real test continues. Let us keep the momentum going, support our ladies and believe in their Olympic dream.
