The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has issued an important advisory to candidates participating in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) counselling 2026, cautioning them against a fake notice claiming a reduction in the qualifying percentile. The clarification follows the circulation of an unauthorised document across social media platforms, which falsely suggested that the committee had approved a substantial relaxation in the eligibility criteria for undergraduate medical admissions. The MCC has categorically dismissed the circulated document as fake and misleading, urging medical aspirants, parents and other stakeholders to rely exclusively on official sources for authentic information regarding the ongoing counselling process.
In an advisory issued on October 13, the MCC stated that it had received reports about an unauthorised letter falsely claiming that the NEET UG 2026 qualifying cutoff percentile had been reduced. According to the fabricated notice, the qualifying percentile had allegedly been lowered to the 15th percentile for candidates belonging to the General and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) categories and the 10th percentile for candidates from reserved categories. The claims created confusion among medical aspirants awaiting updates on the undergraduate medical admission process. Addressing these reports, the committee clarified that no such decision had been taken and that the existing NEET UG qualifying percentile criteria remain unchanged.
The committee has emphasised that mcc.nic.in is the official website candidates should consult for authentic updates, notices and instructions concerning NEET UG counselling 2026. Any information regarding changes to qualifying criteria or admission procedures should be treated as valid only after it has been confirmed through an official MCC communication.
Furthermore, the committee has urged students and other concerned individuals to report fake notices and misleading information directly to the MCC.
