..production volume has decreased, but revenue has increased,
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s state revenue from the energy and mineral resources sector has continued to rise, driven by higher commodity export values despite lower shipment volumes, a senior cabinet minister has said.
Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia reported the revenue figures to President Prabowo Subianto during a plenary cabinet meeting marking the administration’s first two years of policy implementation.
Bahlil said non-tax state revenue from January to October 2026 reached Rp127.74 trillion (approximately US$7.09 billion), approaching the full-year State Budget target of Rp133.63 trillion (US$7.42 billion).
The government aims to increase total revenue to Rp165 trillion (US$9.16 billion) to strengthen fiscal capacity, particularly to help finance fuel subsidies.
“Our target—to assist the finance minister in covering the fuel subsidy deficit—is to reach Rp165 trillion,” Bahlil said in a statement. He added that achieving this target would generate an estimated Rp30 trillion (US$1.66 billion) in additional non-tax state revenue.
The sector’s performance was reflected in export figures for both coal and nickel.
Indonesia’s coal export volume from January to September 2026 fell to 343 million tons, down from 374 million tons in the same period last year. However, export value increased from approximately US$21 billion to US$23.71 billion.
“In other words, production volume has decreased, but revenue has increased,” Bahlil said, explaining the trend.
Nickel exports showed a similar pattern. As of August 2026, their total value had reached approximately US$24.55 billion, up from US$21.22 billion in the corresponding period of 2025. Turning to domestic energy security, Bahlil assured Prabowo that the country’s fuel reserves remained secure.
He said stocks of Pertalite, the subsidized RON 90 gasoline, were sufficient to cover 16 to 18 days of demand, while inventories of other fuel types remained above the government-mandated minimum levels.
