Some lucky London commuters got a happy surprise this Saturday, when they spotted none other than the Princess of Wales sitting amongst them in the Tube—and with daughter Princess Charlotte by her side.
Princess Catherine and Charlotte, 11, rode the Elizabeth Line (named after the beloved Queen Elizabeth II) of the London Underground into central London, disembarking at Tottenham Court Road station, near the West End and Oxford Street.
And while it’s true the royals do not often take public transportation, snaps taken by bystanders of the mother-daughter duo show they were cool, casual, and totally at ease during the ride, even chatting a bit with fellow passengers. (Of course, the princesses were accompanied by security, but they did not run into any issues that needed the guards’ intervention.)
While Kate has previously traveled via Tube (as she was once a private citizen), this is Charlotte’s first known ride on the public train, and a fan-captured video shared on social media shows her looking quite amused. (See some photos and a clip of the pair’s train ride here.)
The royals chose posh outfits for their girls’ day, with Kate dressing in head-to-toe burgundy, and Charlotte opting for a preppy navy look including tights and ballet flats. The two have always been totally in sync when it comes to style.
Their outing came one day after Kate traveled to Northern Ireland with husband Prince William for a royal engagement, which itself followed a busy few weeks of events for the royal couple.
