The Batman Part II has brought in another director to help finish filming while Matt Reeves continues to deal with an ongoing family matter.
The sequel, starring Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight, has been temporarily paused as Reeves takes time away from the production.
However, rather than the project getting delayed further, Hollywood director Steven Soderbergh will step in to complete the final few weeks of filmiong.
A spokesperson for DC Studios said Soderbergh had approached Reeves himself, offering to help after admiring his work on the first film.
‘Matt and Steven will work closely together with the actors and crew to fulfil Matt’s vision of the film,’ the spokesperson added.
Soderbergh, whose recent films include Black Bag, said he wanted to ensure the new footage fitted seamlessly with what had already been shot.
‘I thought Matt Reeves’ work on The Batman was stunning; it was intentional, specific and rigorously coherent,’ he said.
‘The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.’
Reeves was also quick to reassure fans that he was not walking away from the highly anticipated sequel.
‘Just to be clear, I am not leaving The Batman Part II,’ he wrote on X.
‘I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time to help me finish principal photography. Thank you to all for your concern and well wishes.’
The update comes after Pattinson confirmed earlier this week that filming had not yet resumed.
Speaking to Official Pop Drop, the actor said: ‘Yeah, we’re pausing for a little bit, and then we’re going to figure it all out.’
Production had been underway in London since June before the temporary halt was announced.
At the time, a representative said Reeves had the full support of DC Studios while he focused on his family matter.
The film has already faced a lengthy wait for fans, with Warner Bros pushing its release date back to February 18, 2028.
It was originally scheduled to arrive in October 2026 before being moved to October 2027 and then delayed again.
